Invisalign® Vs Braces: Which Is Better?

If you are considering straightening your teeth, you have several options these days. The most preferred methods are by getting either traditional braces or Invisalign®. Both have their own set of advantages and disadvantages; however, today we will review why many patients consider Invisalign® the better choice.

Why Is Invisalign® Better Than Braces?

Braces take time to adjust to as they are very noticeable. If you are someone who does not want other people to notice that you are in the process of straightening your teeth, this would not be the best option for you. Also, if you are uncomfortable with the idea of having pieces of metal in your mouth, you will want to go with Invisalign® instead. Here are some other reasons why Invisalign® is better than braces:

Invisalign® trays are almost unnoticeable

As Invisalign® trays are made of a clear, custom-made thermoplastic material, people barely notice when you have them on. Unlike braces, which are bulky and obvious, Invisalign® trays let you straighten your teeth discreetly. This is a good option if you are a working professional looking to straighten your teeth in an unnoticeable way.

You can remove Invisalign® trays whenever you would like

It can be difficult to clean your teeth when you have traditional braces. Also, when eating, you could get pieces of food stuck in your teeth. You do not face these issues with Invisalign® trays as you can remove them. Whenever you want to eat, brush your teeth, or floss, just remove your aligners and then put them back in when you are done.

You can eat whatever you want with Invisalign® trays

Trying to eat certain foods with braces on is not easy. There is a whole list of food items you should avoid with braces, including chewy and sticky foods. If you do not wish to give these foods up until your braces are removed, Invisalign® is a great alternative. Invisalign® trays are removable, so all you need to do is pop the trays out when you want to eat your favorite chewy or hard food item and then put them back in after you have brushed your teeth.

Invisalign® trays are more comfortable than braces

Any teeth-straightening method will cause some discomfort. However, braces can be painful. Sometimes the wire brackets cut into your gum causing them to get swollen and bleed. Also, braces tend to put greater pressure on your teeth to encourage them into proper alignment. Invisalign® exerts gentler pressure and the trays do not cut into your gums.

Invisalign® trays require less dentist office visits

Traditional braces require one visit to your dentist every month. Invisalign® requires you to come in every three months. Also, you may need to visit your dentist more often with braces as adjustments are needed and emergencies like a wire poking out into your cheek is common.
